Non-stop bargaining fails to produce agreement

Despite a marathon negotiating session that went until 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning, your Corrections Team did not reach an agreement on a new contract.

The Corrections Team remained at the table as long as possible before it became clear that the employer was not moving on major concessions. While there was some movement on language changes, it was not enough to produce an agreement.

“We believe that we can negotiate an agreement if the employer is serious about getting it done,” said bargaining team chair Dan Sidsworth. “The employer has indicated that they want to begin negotiating Essential/Emergency Services Agreements on January 2. We say get back to the bargaining table, get serious about the issues and let’s get the contract settled.”

Your Corrections Team is delivering that message to the employer today. We are urging the employer to take a step back and return to the bargaining table January 2 ready to negotiate the outstanding issues and reach a new collective agreement.
