The Equity Unit is seeking Harassment and Discrimination Complaint Advisors and Investigators in the following regions:
- Region 1– one (1) Advisor, one (1) Investigator
- Region 2 –one (1) Advisor
- Region 3—one (1) Investigator
- Region 4 –one (1) Advisor, one (1) Investigator
- Region 5 –two (2) Advisors one (1) Investigator
- Region 6 –one (1) Advisor
- Region 7 –two (2) Advisors
Advisors will:
- Advise Complainants or Respondents of their rights, responsibilities and options under the Policy;
- Assist Complainants or Respondents in completing all relevant forms;
- Act as advocates for Complainants or Respondents throughout the complaint process, including investigations and appeals;
- May serve in the role of Mediator between the parties.
- May act as an Advisor to Executive Board members and parties in complex complaints through the Special Advisory Committee.
Qualifications:
- OPSEU member in good standing;
- Demonstrated understanding of and background in human rights issues;
- Demonstrated ability to advise and mediate complaints.
Investigators will:
- Investigate allegations in a complaint;
- Prepare investigation reports and recommend suitable remedies where it is believed that alleged conduct has been substantiated;
- May act as a Mediator between the parties;
- May act as an Advisor to Executive Board members and parties in complex complaints through the Special Advisory Committee.
Qualifications:
- OPSEU member in good standing;
- Demonstrated understanding of and background in human rights issues;
- Demonstrated ability to advise and mediate complaints.
- Excellent information-gathering, communication, interpersonal, analytic writing and problem solving skills.

Please note that this is a voluntary position but expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with OPSEU policy.
Selected candidates are also expected to commit to the positions on a long-term basis. Members who are selected for an interview must be available from October 16 to October 25, 2013 for their interview, and successful candidates must be available for training in Toronto during the week of December 2-6, 2013. Advisors will be expected to attend 3 days of training that week (December 2-4), and Investigators will attend five days (December 2-6).
