Guelph and District Labour Council Labour Day Picnic

Sisters and Brothers:

The Guelph & District Labour Council is excited to announce that once again we will be hosting our Annual Labour Day Picnic on Monday September 2, 2013 at Riverside Park in Guelph.

As we have been able to do the last three years, we are pleased once again to offer this event free of charge to all in our community.  The picnic includes food (hot dogs, local corn and drinks), entertainment, rides, face painting, children’s area and community and union tables.  Festivities take place from 11:00 am to 4 pm.

The success of our picnic is always dependant on the help and support that we receive from you, our affiliates.  We need volunteers to help with serving food, setting up and cleaning up.  We also need financial support to ensure that we can offer this picnic free to the community making the statement “labour feeding and caring for our community”.

Once again, we have been selected to receive a grant of $3,000.00 under the Community Celebration agreement from the City.  This money will help defer the costs of providing free rides to the kids on the day, signage at the Woolwich St. entrance and rental of the Red Pavilion.

We are requesting three things from your local:

1.   Ensure every one of your members knows about the event and encourage them to attend,

2.   a group of volunteers for the day of the picnic to help with all the activities and to share in the fun, and

3.   a financial donation so that we can continue to offer this picnic to our community.

Thank you for taking the time to read this request and your consideration of our needs.  Should you like more information or a presentation on this or any other activities or events that the Guelph & District Labour Council hosts please do not hesitate to contact me at jfd@members.cupe.ca or 519-766-8376.

Peace and Solidarity,

Janice Folk-Dawson
