We need all OPSEU members to speak out against the privatization of ServiceOntario. The Ontario government is selling this valuable government service, exposing Ontarians’ personal information to fraud and identity theft. The threat is all the more significant if ServiceOntario goes to a U.S. corporation. The U.S. Patriot Act gives the U.S. government the power to order the secret disclosure of personal information held by any U.S. company. Ontario privacy legislation will not protect you, lawyers have advised the union.
Here’s what you can do:
- E-mail your MPP
- Join ServiceOntario members on June 14 for lunch-time events between 11:30 and 1 p.m. outside ServiceOntario work locations. Members will be handing out information cards to the public.
- Wear a Fraud Stopper sticker.
- Post and distribute our two information cards.
1. Identity Theft ALERT
2. Your Personal Information is AT RISK
To order the information cards and stickers, e-mail Mary-Anne DiAdamo, OPSEU Campaigns Unit, mdiadamo@opseu.org
Let her know the quantities and where to send them.
