ATTENTION ALL OPS I and IT MEMBERS:
Lost in the Cloud: A webinar on the future of public information in Ontario
Monday, November 18, 2013
7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
The Ontario government plans to outsource the storage of some data to the cloud. Up to 25 per cent of data will be moved from secure government servers to a private cloud provider over the next three years. This has huge ramifications for the security of public information and IT jobs.
In the future, when Ontarians go online to find a job, access a government program, or try to get approval for a business activity, there’s a good chance their personal information will be stored “in the cloud” on a private company’s servers.
Join our webinar to find out:
- The government’s plans and the union’s response;
- The pros and cons of cloud computing: cautionary tales and the pitfalls to avoid; and
- Outsourcing of IT jobs: impacts and trends.
Our presenters:
James Cushing, OPSEU co-chair, Ministry of Government Services Employee Relations Committee
Ron Hira, Associate Professor of Public Policy, Rochester Institute of Technology, and co-author of Outsourcing America
Bruce MacKay, Chief Technologist, Razyr Networks
Special Guest:
OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas
